Hero, hello! It's good to see you again! Say, you wouldn't have time to do me a favor, would you? Don't worry! This time, there's no Lore-shattering crisis. I just need someone to give one of our Paladin recruits a hand! Before you do, though, I think you should stock up on some Blessed Coffee… just in case.
How can I help?
One of our top recruits is ready to become a full-fledged Paladin - but first, she needs to prove herself by killing her first undead horde. We use a "battle buddy" system - we send someone to be the recruit's spotter, and make sure they actually pass their trial. But we're a bit shorthanded at the moment, so I was hoping I could send you.

Look like you're all set to head out and meet up with our recruit! She'll be waiting for you in Doomwood Forest, just outside the entrance of Lightguard Keep.

I cannot train you until you have aided those inside the keep. Please return to Lightguard and quest for the people there.

Paladins are Defenders of the Light, ever battle-ready. But all of my training means nothing if there are no Paladins here to keep the Darkness at bay! They are missing somehow, somewhere. I worry for the brave hears that are out the battling unknown Undead, but I fear more for those of us left behind.

For Vayle to have saved you like that, she must believe in your importance. The anger she still harbors towards Artix, however, is great. For that reason alone, he should be kept out of DoomWood. But with the PaladinSlayer on the hunt… he is the LAST Paladin. He must be kept safe at all costs! You should go talk to Vayle.
