A Futile Dream
This is your dearly beloved as he was, not what he has become. You still have some connection to the Light, and it turned this illusion into someone you'll never see again. Alden always tried to assure you that none of this was your fault. That you, regardless of what happened, didn't owe Valen anything. You couldn't bring yourself to believe him. Valen took the fall for you, again.
Valen?
"I told you, didn't I? Don't waste your breath on a lost cause." In the beginning, he meant this genuinely. Valen would see something wretched, and find his own reflection in it. This phrase dripped with hate. But sometimes, it sounded like a plea for help. Why must we be ashamed of being weak? What's wrong about being human? But you're the Champion of Light. You're not human. The next time you see him, remember that you have no choice.
Family?
"You deserve a loving family, and I…can't have children." Valen, that doesn't make you any less of a man. "What we're fighting for is bigger than the three of us." What's the point of the bigger picture if we set an example like this? Individual happiness is important too. "We have no choice." But you did make a choice. One that gave you everything you wanted, even if Valen and Alden would never truly be happy. Stop ignoring this.
Choice
"If you could go back in time, would you do things differently?" You don't remember Valen saying this. "Would you forget the world and choose me?" These were the words in his heart, but he wasn't brave enough to say them out loud. They remind you of Brittany's first steps, the first time Victoria learned how to say "I love you," and Tara holding your finger with her tiny hands. The illusion of Valen smiles, glad that you know the answer.
