Lord Dage wandered off to do who knows what. Command would naturally fall to one of his Generals, but you understand the situation better. First, like you said, we'll round up the Evocators and Knights that were colluding with Maleagant to stifle the spread of this parasitic Light.
I'm stationed at the Lethe's barracks, and the Legionnaires I command never tamper with the Cocytus. The river's waters are frigid, and meant to cool weapons fresh from the Soul Forge. It seems Maleagants Legionnaires are craftsmen, of an eerily sentimental sort.

While we were rounding up Maleagant's accomplices, I noticed a strange group of ice floes in the river. Help me fish them out but take care not to fall in yourself. The Cocytus isn't just cold… its miserable waters are haunted. The screams and wails of traitors will echo in your ears for decades.
The glowing ice is pulsing with Light, which is proof that the River Cocytus is saturated with it. Maleagant's Legionnaires could be trying to spread it to the rest of the Underworld by using the waters as a conduit.

If the Cocytus River itself is saturated with Light, the Legionnaires that tampered with it wouldn't have gotten away unscathed. Search the rooms for the Overdriven Evocators. If this magic ravaged the dead Paladins so badly, I'm sure it would do far worse to them.
Their souls are irreparably damaged, and their minds are gone. These Evocators were locked up by the others to prevent them from attacking everything in sight. Those stones they carry…they're not from the Underworld. Someone gave them solidified Light to contaminate the river.

Search the rest of the rooms. If the Evocators were affected, then there must be Overdriven Knights hidden away too. With how Lord Dage raised most of the Undead Legion, they'd melt our ranks if left unchecked. We can't let a single one slip through our fingers.
The Knights' bones are fading into the Light. My fingers can almost phase right through them. There were runes carved into their armor, weren't there? I can…hear them. It's a comforting and tantalizing sound. Those Knights you defeated look at peace listening to them.

That took care of the Legionnaires working with Maleagant, and uncovered a bevy of other problems I'll have to deal with later. For now, find Arondight. He's still trying to heal the souls of those dead Paladins. If his efforts accidentally raised Overdriven Paladins, put them back down.
Is Arondight making actual progress? At this rate, we'll have to convince him to piece the souls of the Legion back together - perhaps out of the kindness of his forgiving heart. Argh, just where is Lord Dage? He should be dealing with this himself!

We need to get to the nexus of portals leading to the other rivers. It should be the final room at the end of the corridor. Cut down the Evocators and Knights trying to get in our way, and talk to the Legionnaire that can open the portals. According to my records… Vaughn has authorization.
The portals to the rest of the Rivers are open. We'll need to visit each of them to catch up to Maleagant. I don't know how much progress he's already made, or if the Legionnaires stationed at the other barracks are affected. We're in for a fight if the Light has already touched them.

The portal on the far left leads to the Styx. It seems Maleagant already flooded it with Light. Take down the Overdriven Knights and Evocators occupying the riverside. I'll search for any sign of Maleagant.
The General of the Styx has the situation contained, and can slow the flow of Light from spreading to the rest of her river. Frustratingly, she and her Legionnaires fought Maleagant, but refused to chase after him. "It has to be Lord Dage that decides his fate. His actions caused this."

The portal beside the Styx's leads to the Lethe. I allow Moumers access to the river to rid themselves of memories keeping them from serving the Legion to the best of their capabilities. Light has already contaminated the water. Restrain the Mourners before they get too close!
I'm the General in charge of the River Lethe's barracks. My Legionnaires were able to stifle the flow of the Light to the rest of the Lethe, but didn't stop Maleagant from leaving. They were under the impression that I would have supported him. Maybe if he rebelled a few years earlier…

The portal to the right of the Lethe's is the Phlegethon's. It's hard to tell because it's a river of boiling blood on fire, but Maleagant has already tainted it with Light. Keep the Cerberus Pups from drinking from it, or else they'll be transformed.
We don't have time to check if the Phlegethon's General has the situation under control. To be honest with you, I've never met them face-to-face. If Maleagant's already gone, his last destination is the Acheron. That's our last chance - and by extension, his.

Through the final portal on the far right of the nexus is the source of the River Acheron. Maleagant is there, finalizing the last stage of his plans to flood the Underworld with Light. His despair has driven him to madness. Defeat him…and if possible, bring him back to his senses.
I have to say, I'm impressed. I'm not talking about you, since I'm always impressed with you. So - "Destruction births Creation. Death nurtures new Life." I think…I can live with that. Unlive with that, I mean.
