"Tara could be in danger? Sir Richard and I will inform the Queen immediately! She's borrowing one of the Castle's bedrooms to rest. Don't worry, Queen Victoria isn't sick. The Nobles have just been relentless. When it isn't the sycophants, it's people like my father trying to find ways to make the Queen look incompetent." Despite the winter chill, Lady Nialla fanned herself. These days, it was hard to keep her temper down to a simmer.

"Did you say something?" You could practically hear Richard's brow rising. Maybe I should narrate more quietly. "Hm. Well, Lady Song and Lord Henry must have mobilized their Knights. I'll put the Queensguard on high alert. We'll locate any other suspicious gifts, and search the castle for anything else amiss. I believe the Queen would prefer to reunite with her sister before leaving the castle. Please let Tara know we'll meet her in the parlor.

Unlike the other Knights struck by the Unsung's cursed arrows, the Captain of the Queensguard remains himself. His condition sort of reminds me of —

"My apologies. I was only able to protect you and Princess Tara. Queen Victoria is in danger! You're going after her, so let me come with you!

"Don't. Let them handle this. Tara needs you," Nialla is firm with her words.

"My awful father is trying to make it look like Queen Victoria was dabbling in evil magic! That she's always been in league with the Shadowscythe. Tara's taking over, and she'll need help asserting the truth." Her frustration is contagious. Wow, her dad sucks.
